Why Choose Hardwood

Hardwood flooring has a lot of advantages. The first being style. When true hardwood flooring is installed in your home, the value instantly goes up. You can buy hardwood in an array of styles like handscraped, traditional, and rustic. The look is up to you. Handscraped flooring like Shaw’s Pebble Hill Hickory is stylish with lots of character like knots, mineral streaks and long, well defined graining. Handscraped hardwood flooring is an excellent choice for cabins and rustic homes. Dodds Hardwood has got you covered. We have a plethora of choices in stock that are picked up ready and available on the same day you come into the store.

Color choices are important. They will make or break the entire feel of the room. A popular choice for hardwood flooring is natural. Natural wood is in high demand and gives a nice cozy feel to any decor. A lot of homeowners are choosing wider plank looks to give flooring a feel of elegance. Wide plank hardwood like the European oak look can really give off the feel of looks found in nature.

The look and feel of your flooring all depends upon the species that you choose. The most common species of hardwood flooring is oak. Oak is the most abundant lumber resource in America, which makes it readily available and inexpensive to purchase. Oak has a great cathedral grain pattern extending the length of the board. Its natural color is very diverse as it has a ton of variation from board to board. Dodds has a huge amount of oak hardwood inventory on hand. Hickory is another popular speci. It's known for its natural rustic look. It can be used in traditional and rustic type settings. Most hickory hardwood floors come with a texture like handscraping or wire-brushing. This texture makes for an eye-catching appearance and changes the entire look of the home.

Solid Vs Engineered

The age old question is what's better, solid or engineered? The answer to that questions doesn’t lie so much in the product, but more so in the environment in which its being installed. Solid hardwood flooring is the most sought after. It can be sanded and finished several times, giving you multiple opportunities to change colors and fix scratches. But since solid hardwood is thicker than engineered hardwood, it is more expensive to use. And solid hardwood can only be installed on plywood that is above grade. It must be nailed down. So if you are on a slab, or you are installing in a basement, you must go with engineered hardwood. Engineered hardwood flooring is a combination of plywood and real wood veneers that are adhered together to form a nice thick plank. Because of its construction, engineered hardwood can be installed below grade, like in a basement, or on a concrete slab. This type of hardwood is the most stable when some moisture is present.

Dodds Flooring has been in business since 1969, and has been wholesaling hardwood flooring the entire time. Our warehouse just north of Atlanta, GA has a full selection of both solid and engineered hardwood. We have flooring in all price ranges, for all customers.
